Seth Godin on the Tribes we lead

Seth Godin is an entrepreneur, top business blogger and marketing Guru. He has been someone that I have learned a lot from through following his readings. His latest book was called "Tribes" and I actually posted a referral to it in on one of my first blogs. I just found this lecture Seth Godin gives talking about "The Tribes we Lead" from the famous Ted Talks. Definitely check it out and read the book. Through the last couple years of my life, Seth Godin's perspectives and philosophies have definitely led me in the right direction. He opens your mind into a new way of thinking, and helps you evolve with the times.

Ultralight Cheap Solar-Powered Netbooks

Everything electric now has a solar panel! Check out this new Netbook.

"The Gyy features a tiny 8-inch screen and retains its low price point with a bare-bones set of specs (400mhz processor, 128MB of RAM), but it’s the device’s sustainable components that really set it apart from other netbooks. The computer body is composed of bioplastics and biodegradable materials made from starch and cellulose, so end-of-life netbooks are ultra-easy to recycle. Best of all, the netbook comes with solar panels mounted on the back of the display, making it ideal for developing countries that lack grid power. iUnika’s netbook will be on store shelves in June or July" (inhabitat.com)

Dragonfly Utopian Superstructure

The future for New York City has a grand vision. This is the Dragonfly and it is an urban farm concept that intends to ease the problems of food mileage and shortage, and hopes to reconnect consumers with producers.

"Urban farming is a growing trend amongst savvy city dwellers today, but in a densely packed borough like Manhattan, growth must come vertically. Spanning 132 floors and 600 vertical meters, the Dragonfly can accommodate 28 different agricultural fields for the production of fruit, vegetables, grains, meat and dairy. A combination of solar and wind power make Belgian architect Vincent Callebaut’s Dragonfly concept %100 self sufficient... The spaces between the wings are designed to take advantage of solar energy by accumulating warm air in the exo-structure during winter. Cooling in the summer will be facilitated through natural ventilation and evapo-perspiration from the plants.

Exterior vertical gardens filter rain water which is then mixed with domestic liquid waste. Together they are treated organically before being recirculated for farm use, preserving and distributing nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. This urban farm, perhaps more appropriate for Dubai than New York, is intended to be cultivated by its own inhabitants, thus closing the loop of self-sustenance." (inhabitat.com)

This is true innovation and creativity at its finest. What visions do you have to better the world you live in? Dream big, for no vision is too big or far fetched in this world.

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY MOM!

First of all, let me say Happy Mother's Day to all the amazing mother's out there! I definitely think there needs to be more credit to what mothers do; rather than just having one day of appreciation, it should be on going. My mother, sorry to everyone else out there, is by far the greatest though. She is loving, caring, funny, creative, confident, strong and quite possibly one of the weirdest persons I know! haha

She definitely is a "Cool Mom". She grew up loving the dance scene and was really into funk and disco. You can definitely tell, because whenever there is a good music beat on, she will bust a move. When burning CD's became really big, she asked me one time to burn her a CD with DMX and ODB (if you don't know, 2 big time rappers) on it! I was so shocked, I will NEVER forget that! Also, there would be sometimes when I would be in the kitchen and hear this loud noise coming from all the way in the garage, I run to open the door that led into our garage to find it was just my mom blasting music in the car as she came back home!

She can also CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP! (for those who don't know what it is, YouTube it!)

The biggest thing is, she has helped build a strong family. She is the only female in the family of 4, with my father and 2 boys. She is the center of our love for each other and keeps our bond strong.

I thank you mom for being the best mother I could ask for! You have never stopped supporting me, and I know you never will.

Happy Mothers Day!

Free Recycling computers from Apple

"Apple is making recycling electronics easy for schools by offering to recycle old computers for free, but like any great offer, it's limited.

Any K-12 or higher education institutions are eligible to recycle old Macs, PCs and peripherals (keyboards, mice, printers, etc.) from any manufacturer, with no purchase required. The limits are these: a school must have at least 25 pieces of recyclables to participate, they must register by July 31 and pick-up must occur by August 31 and all equipment must be packaged according to the instructions.

Regardless of all the details, this is a great, if temporary, offer from Apple. If you or anyone you know works for a school that would be eligible, please pass on the registration information here. Until electronics companies institute permanent, free recycling for all their products, we'll have to take advantage of opportunities like these while we can." (EcoGeek.org)

Calculate Energy Consumption

As of lately, I have been really fascinated by GE's smart grid which is all about measuring energy use and educating people on how to be more green. Check out this smart meter which helps someone learn exactly how much energy they are consuming at all moments. This is P3's Kill-a-Watt. It's $20 and it can connect to any electronic devise. It helps calculate energy expenses by day, week, month and year. Another cool feature... you can tweet your power usage! I'm sold!

How much energy do you use?

THE WINNER!!!

My mom was giving me updates on the fight because my parents were actually at the fight. First update mom gave me, "DIDDY IS TWITTERING", then " Rob and Big are here!" haha I love my mom!

But the fight was amazing, from what I have heard and seen. Hatton couldn't last past the 2nd round and Manny had a punch landing percentage of over 50%, while Hatton was struggling to hit 15%. Manny had a "Devastating knock out" (quote from my mom's update) in the 2nd round. Here are some pics to get a better idea of how DEVASTATING this knock out actually was.
