Why we have so few women leaders

Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg did a great talk about "Why we have so few women leaders" in the world. She argued that if you are a woman and want to become a leader, 3 needs for change are:

1. Sit at the table.

2. Make your partner a real partner.

3. Don’t leave before you leave.

Watch this great video for an explanation of each point.

Chile's Grand Innovation Experiment

I came across a great post on Tech Crunch that talked about a radical new experiment in Chile, which is trying to become a new hub for technology entrepreneurs.

" It is importing entrepreneurs from all over the world, by offering them $40,000 to bootstrap in Chile. They get a visa; free office space; assistance with networking, mentoring, fundraising, and connecting to potential customers and partners. All the entrepreneurs have to do, in return, is commit to working hard and live in one of the most beautiful places on this planet.
The program, called Start-up Chile, is still in the pilot stage. Chile has selected 25 teams to receive grants. "

My peak interest in this, how do you create a brand new culture in a location that has a very established one? How do you create new values, mentalities and beliefs in a places that identified them centuries ago?

What they seem to be doing first is recruiting the people who have their specific values, mentalities and beliefs. Chile is creating a tribe and investing in them recreating the new culture they wish to obtain. It is hard to educate a mass amount of local people on why they should change their beliefs, but what you can do is invest in a small tribe and let them do remarkable things that the locals are attracted to. People are attracted to success and if this group of 25 entrepreneurs from all around the world can find success in their businesses, the start towards change will follow.

$1 Billion home completed

India's wealthiest man finally has a new home to move into. This building was suppose to be "The Greenest of all Buildings", but may be one of the biggest Green Washing efforts the world has ever seen. This 27 story building is 568 ft. high and has a total area of 398,000 sq. ft. In reality, this building could host 60 stories if, Mukesh Ambani (Forbes 4th richest man) settled for standard ceilings instead of an exceptionally high floor-to-ceiling program.

This building has its own health club, gym and dance studio, swimming pool, ballroom, plenty of guest rooms, lounges, 50 seater cinema, 3 helicopter pads and a garage that holds 160 lucky guests.

What makes this worse is that this home is for 5 people (Mukesh, his wife and 3 children)! Building a $1 Billion home in a nation which has 1/3 of the world's poorest population is a pure example of excessive consumption and wastefulness. I'm sure your family would be extremely happy with even a $1 Million home, and just think what you could do spending $999,000,000 on your own nation... What a waste...

Transformer X

If you were psyched up about Google's announcement of their self-driving cars last week, here is something that will blow that out of the water.

On Tuesday, DARPA officially announced its "TRANSFORMER X" (REAL LIFE TRANSFORMERS?!?!?!) project to build a Humvee that can take off in flight.

Forbes Blog says, " The Transformer X will be designed for depositing and extracting soldiers and supplies in tough-to-reach places without easily accessible roads, taking off from a standstill and flyng up to 250 miles with a 1000 pound load. Most Science-fiction of all? It won't necessarily have a human at the controls-or at least not one with any piloting experience"

8 Amazing Corn Field Mazes

The Owners of the Connors Farm in Danvers, Massachusetts, is such a Family Guy fan, he mowed a maze with his favorite characters.

If you are a Deadliest Catch fan, here is a maze dedicated to Captain Phil Harris in Tumwater, Washington.

Maybe the most difficult maze out of the bunch, but here is one dedicated to Mr. Charles Darwin. Imagine trying to go through the beard...

Here you go ladies... Last year to commemorate the opening of New Moon, Black Island Farms offered two Twilight-themed mazes. They also did it for Eclipse!!!

I bet by now, the people in Little Darby Creek in Milford, Ohio, have already burnt this maze down...

Feel like clowning around? Try this 20-acre clown maze!

Any American Idol fans out there? Check out this David Archuleta maze in his hometown of Utah.

When McDonald's wanted to create some buzz for the opening of McCafe's a couple years back, they paid a farm in Lincoln, Nebraska to carve this corn maze. Once people found their way out of the maze, they received coupons for free lattes!

Let's stay positive!!!

Here is the greatest morning pep talk i've ever seen! Let's all stay positive!!!!

BUBBLE ROOM!!

This is amazing! Check out this snorkel clip from a guy named Jordan who designed an oxygen-filled underwater fort, which he and his brother call "The Bubble Room". If you are ever around the Nevada Mountain Lake, make sure to check out this underwater fort that is 15 ft. below the surface. It is built with a clear dome so when in the "Bubble Room", you can see the entire lake above you.

Beer Bottle Musical Instruments

Do you ever blow into bottles and make that whistling sound? Matt Braun has crafted Tuned Pale Ale and put a more formal music twist onto that old trick. On the label, there are markers in which you can drink to a certain level, blow on the bottle, and it will play that particular note. Braun hopes was to promote more social interaction, as if drinking itself, already doesn't!

Wall Mounted Laundry

Doesn't doing laundry just take up a lot of space in your place? I mean first, you have big hampers that take up space and then you have these bulky washer and dryers. Check out these new innovative ideas that helps consolidate the wasted space!

First, the picture above is called Polyp, which is a pop-off laundry basket designed by German designer Helene Steiner, that hangs on room walls. It has a modern design that is appealing to the eye and has a great function. Users can insert dirty clothing through the holes, and detach and carry the basket away when laundry needs to be done.

Now the picture below is called the Dismount Washer, which is designed by Lichen Guo. Laundry can be inserted into a portable container that latches onto an energy stick. Washing involves high-pressure steam while rotating the basket.
